Call For Submissions: Live Performance Describers

Sick + Twisted Theatre seeks submissions from those interested in learning live vocal description for theatre.
What is Live Performance Description?
This workshop will be an introduction to live description and sighted guide techniques to make theatre performances accessible for adults, families and young people who are blind or partially sighted.
The training will include an intensive workshop for describers, introduction to sighted guide techniques, consultations with community partners and a community demonstration.

Who should apply?
Ideal candidates will have a background in theatre or live performance, as well as some vocal skills, writing skills, and observational skills.
Participants will be invited to partner with Sick + Twisted to provide paid vocal description to theatres and other organizations on an ongoing basis. We are looking for people interested in an ongoing relationship who have no immediate plans to move out of the province. Attendance at all workshop sessions in May and June is mandatory.
Tuition is free to those who qualify, thanks to Canada Council funding.

If you are fluent in multiple languages, your relevant experience, what makes you a good candidate for live description training, your experience with disability arts and activism, and if you have any areas of specialized knowledge that may be an asset.
